Amber Love 28-MAR-2012 After the serious debacle of my formerly favorite vodka company’s ad campaign (Belvedere’s Rape Ad), I am glowing with pride that my new favorite vodka company VAN GOGH VODKA is doing something positive for the community with its COCKTAILS WITHOUT PREJUDICE program. I certainly didn’t need more reasons to drink martinis but now I have a better reason to order one while out at one of the participating bars.
Music’s icon Cyndi Lauper runs the True Colors Fund where the Give a Damn campaign started back in 2010. Give a Damn is supposed to encourage straight people to see the importance of LGBT concerns in our society. The Give a Damn campaign and Cocktails Without Prejudice have teamed up with mixologist Jonathan Pogash to create a custom Give a Damn martini which is offered in 60 participating locations. I’m quite surprised that there are actually four locations in my home state of New Jersey. For each martini sold, $1 will be given to the Give a Damn campaign.
Give a Damn Martini
Created By The Cocktail Guru, Jonathan Pogash
- 1½ oz. Van Gogh BLUE Triple Wheat Vodka
- ¾ oz. POM pomegranate juice
- ¾ oz. Monin cinnamon syrup
- Top off with 1½ oz sparkling wine
Shake first three ingredients very well with ice and strain into a martini glass. Top off with chilled sparkling wine and garnish with a sweetheart candy.
In the past few months, my Twitter followers have been subjected to photos of my @VangoghVodka experiments. I’ve had no training whatsoever but once in a while I nail a cocktail that is perfectly delicious and sinful.
Here’s my latest:
* 1 part Van Gogh Caramel Vodka
* 1 part Van Gogh Dark Chocolate Vodka
* 1 part almond milk
I couldn’t find the new Dark Chocolate Vodka on shelves in several stores but the manager at a Bottle King was kind enough to special order one bottle for me and it arrived in a couple of days. I’ve begged Van Gogh for a PR job on Twitter. Maybe someday, I’ll get that lucky! After reading about Van Gogh’s Cocktails Without Prejudice, I am even happier than before to unofficially Tweet my love of their products.
As they say, please drink responsibly and have a sober driver.

I had to do some Google Fu to believe the Belvedere ad was real . Sadly, indefensible ideas like this pass many controls before being made public. Those committees usually brainstorm internally with no regard for anyone outside their isolated conference rooms. There are few who protest, but they’re usually outvoted or don’t have the power to stop stupid ideas from being published.
