06-DEC-2011 On November 25, 2011 Jay Snyder lost his wife Michal “the girl” Friedman during the tragic birth of their twins, Jackson James and Reverie Vivian Snyder.

Michal Lura Friedman was the voice of Annalise on Nickolodeon’s SPEED RACER. She was also a singer and songwriter. A website has been created to help raise money for the twins and their father.

“An Evening in Memory of Michal the Girl” will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, at the Rockwood Music Hall, Stage 1, 196 Allen St., between Houston and Stanton streets, between 5 and 7 p.m. Donations can also be made at http://www.thesnydertwins.com.

Strangely, there is some conflicting data out there about the family and fundraisers that, honestly, I question some legitimacy such as an ebay auction for an ADAM HUGHES sketch of Emma Frost. The listing has the husband’s name incorrect which makes me wonder if the money is really going to the Snyder family. I’ve personally sent a message to the ebay seller about that.

There’s also this site, called The Dan Green Guestbook which has a photo of Jay Snyder and Michal Friedman but who is Dan Green? I can’t figure this one out. Since this “Dan Green” page has a PayPal “Donate” button on it, I caution anyone who wants to help out the Snyders about using this page. Michal’s sister Lynn has posted with the Elephant Journal that thesnydertwins.com is the official donation website.

Michal Lura Friedman lost her life on Friday, November 25, 2011 in New York City, due to complications from a c-section shortly after delivering very healthy twins, Jackson James and Reverie Vivian Snyder. For those of you who never met her, Michal was a beautiful, talented woman who was thrilled to be pregnant with her first children. Many of you know “Michal the Girl” as a musician, but her greatest dream was to be a mother. For seven long years she and Jay tried to make this dream come true. Michal was widely loved, and in particular has left behind many friends in her Buddhist and music and voice communities. Many people are inspired to offer help for her husband Jay and their children. This generosity is greatly appreciated and would provide tremendous relief. Although there will obviously be needs far into the future, we are trying to help with immediate expenses, which will add up so quickly with twins. Jay needs all the support he can get in order to provide the care that is needed for Jackson and Reverie.

  1. Dan Green and Jay Snyder are the same person. He’s quite a well-known voice actor, and Dan Green is the name he goes by when doing 4Kids stuff – most famously, Yu-Gi-Oh’s two original main characters (Yugi Muto and Yami Yugi). The website that’s been set up in Green’s name is a website set up by his friend who also does voice work. It’s utilising the fact that he’s garnered many fans over the years. I think it’s safe but if you’re still worried then the official site is best.
    Certainly I’d recommend donating something if you can. It’s a tragic thing to happen to any family, and Dan/Jay has always seemed like such a lovely person. Not to mention having not one, but two babies to look after whilst still in the grieving process isn’t something I’d wish on anyone 🙁
