The Grammy-nominated, Platinum recording artists join Black Mask on the TV adaptation as Sony TV secures rights to the beloved comic book series in a competitive situation.
LOS ANGELES, CA– As reported by Deadline, Sony Pictures Television is developing a series based on the beloved Black Mask Studios comic book DESTINY, NY, to be produced by Platinum recording artists Tegan & Sara, Co-Creators and Executive Producers of the acclaimed Amazon Studios series HIGH SCHOOL.
What if there was a magical prophecy that you were destined to save the world, and you fulfilled it so young you don’t know what to do with the rest of your life? That question is at the heart of long-running Black Mask comic book series DESTINY, NY by Pat ShandPat Shand on Vodka O'Clock, Manuel Preitano, Rosi Kämpe, and Elisa Romboli, which has been acquired by Sony Television in a competitive situation, with Tegan & Sara Quin coming on board to Executive Produce alongside Black Mask’s Matteo Pizzolo and Brian Giberson while Shand will serve as Consulting Producer. The search for a writer is under way.
The collaboration takes shape as the newest series in the line “Destiny, NY: My Girlfriend Broke Up With Me So Now I Run The Mystical Mafia #1” heads to comic shops for its May 2023 debut.
Grammy-nominated, Platinum recording artists Tegan & Sara are no strangers to the “coming of age” space having received accolades for their first television series HIGH SCHOOL on Amazon Freevee. That series, based on their best-selling memoir, has been lauded, landing on numerous Best of 2022 lists and receiving a GLAAD-award nomination for Best New Television Series. Tegan & Sara Co-Created that show and Executive Produce along with co-creator Clea DuVall and Plan B Entertainment. Longtime fans of the graphic novel space, Tegan & Sara have their own series JUNIOR HIGH due for release May, 2023, from Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

In DESTINY, NY, Logan grew up a “prophecy kid” attending the elite NYC boarding school DESTINY, NY for children with magical prophecies. At twelve years old, she faced down a cataclysmic crisis and rescued the entire planet… but hardly anyone even knows what she did, and since then she’s been directionless. There’s no prophecy for what Logan is supposed to do with the rest of her life… she’s having a midlife crisis despite being in her 20s. But when Logan falls for Lilith, the estranged daughter of a mystical crime family, their new love puts the entire school in jeopardy. Tegan & Sara Quin have released nine studio albums, selling more than 2 million albums before streaming came along. After a decade-long run in the indie world, their seventh album, Heartthrob, thrust them into the mainstream, their single “Closer” going platinum. The duo performed the Oscar-nominated song “Everything Is Awesome” at the Academy Awards with the Lonely Island.
