20-APR-2012 Launching a new thing here called Favorite Things. Since today happens to be Friday, today’s inaugural post is FRIDAY FAVORITES. I’m trying to amass a list of things that will be on this list in the future. I’m surprised how hard it is.
UNIVERSAL DESIGN REPLICAS – I’ve loved their costume replicas for as long as I can remember. I’ve never been able to afford anything from them because they are as close to Hollywood costumes as one can get; actually they’re better one major way – David Pea and staff design the costumes to be practical and wearable. In Hollywood, a costume can serve one purpose which is why there are several slightly different ones made. Superman’s boots for example had zippers that the filmmakers didn’t want visible. Each scene had to take this into consideration and boots were made with zippers on different sides. UDR makes costumes that someone can move in. This is a big key to wearing a bulky design like a Storm Trooper or Batman. They have great replicas from TRON, BATMAN, and THE AVENGERS to name a few. Interview with David Pea
COMICS EXPERIENCE – This is where I have been spending my last year online. It’s a community of comic making professionals and newbies. There’s the monthly workshop, book club, and classes. I have met the most talented people because of this “family” of creators. It’s international so don’t worry if you think you’re not from the US that there’s nothing for you. The hardest part of that might be the scheduled times to log in for the live events. Sessions are recorded and available for a limited amount of time if you can’t make the live meeting. If you want to try a month for free, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. There was an offer for a while and I’m not sure if it’s still valid.
